‘Rogue Wave’ is a spritely 33 year old Sigma 36 offshore cruiser/racer designed by the late David Thomas and built in the UK to Lloyds Certification.

Kev raced the old ‘Rogue’ in the 2014 edition finishing 3rd on IRC behind a Nicholson 55 and very quick Young 11.  After 11d:10h:54min and 1452nm of racing, the difference on corrected times between first and third was only 3h:56m. Kev blames it on baking too many loaves of bread!  With a few improvements planned for the old ‘Rogue’ he is looking forward to improved performance in 2018.

Kevin Le Poidevin

Kevin had his first ocean voyage as a 3 year-old when his parents migrated to Australia. Since the age of 22 he has helped some people to race their boats and helped others "off" their boats in his role of skipper of one of the Southport Air Sea Rescue (now Volunteer Marine Rescue) vessels.

Kevin saw his first challenge in 2014 as "the first of many internationally recognised shorthanded races around the globe". The links will tell you more about Kevin and his charity "Soldier On".

During the 2014 Kev raised over $3600.00 (or $1m Kiwi) to raise awareness and funds for his charity Soldier On and will carry that challenge into the 2018 event.

Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our wounded – we will always have their backs. It’s about giving those who have served our country the dignity they deserve and the chance to do and be whatever they choose. Soldier On enhances Australia’s capability to care for our physically and psychologically wounded, provides them with opportunities to inspire their communities and empowers them to achieve their goals.

‘As a returned serviceman, I am acutely aware of the service our members provide in the Defence of Australia and her interests. In this, the 10th anniversary of my own operational deployment, I want to give something back to those returned servicemen and women who have retained the physical and mental scars of their service life. To that end I am proud to be associated with the charity Soldier On’.
