New Order for Fitzroy Yachts

New order for Fitzroy Yachts

Award winning shipyard Fitzroy Yachts is proud to announce they have signed an order for a
new 37.5m fast cruising sloop.

Designed by Dubois Naval Architects, with an interior by Design Unlimited, the yacht is being
built for European owners, and she will be their first yacht.

The yacht, to be known by her hull number FY17, is an all aluminium design, with a fixed keel.
She features a raised saloon and a fixed bimini over the cockpit, which will have mechanically
operated sliding windows. The master cabin and two guest staterooms will be located aft; with a
4th cabin, come day room, galley and crew space forward. Her strong clean lines will make her a
striking sight on the water, while her top performance levels will make her a worthy competitor
on the regatta scene.

Having chartered sailing yachts extensively in the past FY17's discerning owners undertook a
gruelling two-year research process in order to find the best yard to build their yacht.

"Fitzroy Yachts is known for its award winning superyachts and we are delighted that after
compiling a shortlist of some of the top builders in the world, the owner recognised Fitzroy
Yachts as the best builder for the job," said Rodney Martin, MD of Fitzroy Yachts.

On signing the contract for the new order the owners praised Fitzroy Yachts as being "easily the
most proactive," of those yards invited to bid on the project, great to deal with, open to ideas,
participative, and highly professional - all wrapped in first class facilities.

FY17's owners are two of a growing group that see the value in Fitzroy Yachts fully custom yard.
"It is really important to us to be able to focus entirely on the few projects we are working on.
It's the only way to provide the high quality and personal service that these projects demand and
deserve," said Martin. "Allowing our owners to be involved and enjoy the construction process is
one of the most important aspects of a successful build for us," he continued.

FY17's owners, who are planning several visits to the yard throughout the build, concur. "We
never imagined we would build a boat, but we are enjoying the process so much we are already
talking about building another," they said.

The yard expects to begin cutting plate on FY17 in May, with delivery set for early 2014. More
details will be revealed on this exciting project as construction progresses.

Also under construction at the Fitzroy Yachts shipyard is the spectacular 50m flybridge sloop
G50, which is nearing completion ahead of its launch in September, and a 37m Rebuild Project
being completed for launch in June.

FY17 - Specifications

Hull number -FY17
Builder - Fitzroy Yachts
Naval Architect/Exterior Designer - Dubois Naval Architects
Interior Designer - Design Unlimited
Type - Fast cruising sloop
Hull/superstructure - Aluminium
Length overall - 37.5m (123")
Max beam - 8.49m (27"8')
Draught - 4m (13"1')
Rig - 50.5m (156"6') high from waterline
Classification - Lloyds/MCA

Based in New Plymouth, New Zealand, Fitzroy Yachts has been building superyachts since 1997
and is one of the world's leading sailing yacht builders.
Fitzroy Yachts on board for 2014 event

The Solo-Trans Tasman Challenge is thrilled to announce that New Plymouth superyacht construction company Fitzroy Yachts have signed on again as naming partner for the 2014 event.

“It’s fantastic to have such a prestigious local company, with such a clear link to yachting tied in with this event,” said the event organising committee chair Ron Scott.

“The processes and challenges that a sailor goes through either to complete the solo-Tasman or to win the race is reflected in the processes and challenges that Fitzroy Yachts has faced in not only building super yachts, but in producing winning ones. Its 'Zefira' was voted 2011 World Superyacht of the Year. "

Preparations for the 2014 event are already well underway, with the start date for the 1380 nautical mile race set for Easter Sunday 2014.
